What's Bothering You, Mr. Bird?

Lung Fu Shan Environmental Education Centre
Why don’t brown insects want to dress up? Do birds ever get tired of eating fish and shrimps from mudflats? How do ants recognise their siblings, having such huge families? Our animal friends are our companions. But their world is nothing like ours, and their lives are so different from ours. How they live sometimes doesn’t make sense to us at all! They do not have a fixed home, they eat the same food every single day, and some even look the same all their lives. But wait, they can do superhero stuff! With their super-senses, they can detect energies beyond our imagination, do things we wouldn’t even dream of. Some of them cannot see red light, but they can see ultraviolet light. Some detect surrounding temperature even in their sleep, and some can smell scents from over a kilometre away. Why do they live like that? Are their superpowers a bother to them? Or is this how they strive to stay alive?

My VERY Messy Animal Neighbours
TKO Plaza
Leaving items behind, walking away in the middle of a meal, laying clothing around…Like humans, animals can be ‘messy’, and often forget to tidy up after themselves. The ‘mess’ may be a half-chomped leaf or a broken nest, it may be footprints, and even poop! Who will clean up for the animals? Luckily, what is abandoned by some may be treasure to others. Ladybirds devour the leaves that caterpillars cannot finish; torn spider webs become sticky tapes for birds when they build nests; broken nests are recycled by insects on the ground and become their dinner. Although the messes that animals leave behind can easily be overlooked, they are all around us. If you pay close attention, no matter how elusive these animals are, you can spot their tracks. TKO Plaza and Project CROW jointly present 'My VERY Messy Animal Neighbours', bringing all to look into animal messes and discover their tracks in nature. Leftover food, old nests and feathers, as well as footprints and poop, are all telltale signs for us to learn more about our animal neighbours!

The Laboratory of (Bizarre) Superpowers

TKO Plaza
What superpower do you wish you had? For a long time, I have been interested in the superpowers of plants and animals - they can easily do things that humans can never dream of doing (at least without tools and technology)! Some organisms have bizarre looks. Some may appear ordinary, until they unleash unimaginable powers all of a sudden. To better study organisms with superpowers, I have gathered them from every nook and cranny in Hong Kong. Here in my laboratory, you can learn about their strange features, as well as their adaptations to urban life. I find that some superpowers are outright bizarre. What uses can there be with a colour-changing nose, or an edible eye? Somehow, these superpowers are JUST ENOUGH for organisms to overcome their challenges. With your contributions, I may just be one step closer to understanding their superpowers. It is my hope that after today’s visit you will have lots of new questions bubbling in your head. Who knows? You could become the next scientist who studies organisms and their superpowers!

In mountains and valleys, secrets reside,
Each trail a bridge, where paths coincide.
Every step we take, a whisper, a sound,
A dialogue with nature, where wonders abound.
For ten long years, we’ve trod with care,
Millions of kilometers, our journey to share.
Through forty seasons, in sunshine and air,
With 200,000 users, stories of journeys everywhere.
In this exhibition, ten voices emerge,
Telling of mountains, where beauty surges
With cameras, families, and hearts intertwined,
They walk with reverence, in nature’s design.
Artists Nicole Kit and Hiuwa Li unite,
Through illustrations and photos, their visions ignite.
We hope you leave with mountains in your mind,
To start your own dialogue, with trails to find.
